3-Second Transition Game — Regain or Escape Pressure

A small-sided transition game with a clear three-second rule after every turnover. The team that loses the ball presses immediately while the team that wins it tries to escape the pressure and secure the next pass.

Organization

Play 4v4 or 5v5 in a 28x22m area with four mini-goals. After a turnover, the team that lost possession has three seconds to regain. If the new team escapes with two completed passes, normal play continues.

Nearest player presses instantly; Teammates lock nearby options; First touch after regain goes away from pressure; Find the free side quickly; Stop pressing blindly once the opponent escapes

  • Award a bonus goal for scoring within five seconds of a regain.

Regressions

  • Increase the counterpress window to five seconds.
