Curved Through-Ball Finish — Bend Run, Stay Onside

The attacker starts level with a defensive reference, bends the run away and then back in behind to receive a through pass. The curved movement creates separation while helping the player stay onside and face goal on receipt.

Develop curved runs behind a defensive line that stay onside while creating a better angle to receive and finish.

Organization

Use a 30x25m area to one full goal. Mark an offside line with cones or use two passive defenders. A midfielder carries centrally while the forward curves from outside to inside behind the line. The passer releases when the runner is still level, and the action ends with a finish.

Coaching Points

Scan the defensive line before starting the run | Curve away before accelerating behind | Stay level until the passer can release | Pass into space beyond the line | Take the first touch toward goal and finish decisively

Progressions

  • Add an active recovering defender starting beside the runner.

Regressions

  • Use a fixed cone line and no defender.
