Half-Space 3v2 — 8 Fixes Inside, Fullback Arrives Outside

A wide final-third overload where winger, 8 and fullback attack two defenders. The 8 holds an inside reference so the fullback can arrive outside only after the defender is fixed.

Create a 3v2 around the half-space by fixing one defender with the 8 and releasing the fullback outside at the correct moment.

Organization

Mark a 22x18m half-space/wide channel leading to a full-size goal with goalkeeper. Winger starts on the ball, 8 inside and fullback deeper. Two defenders protect the lane. The 8 occupies inside, the winger carries or combines, and the fullback times the outside arrival.

Coaching Points

8 fixes the inside defender before moving | Fullback arrives late rather than standing high | Winger commits the first defender | Use the free player, not a predetermined pattern | Final action can be cross, cutback or inside pass

Progressions

  • Allow a recovering midfielder to join after the first pass.

Regressions

  • Make one defender passive and predetermine the fullback release.
