U10 Practice Plan

U10 Soccer Practice Plan for Youth Coaches

A complete U10 soccer practice plan you can run today — with session structure, block durations, coaching points and a plan for when things change.

How to run a U10 soccer practice

A good U10 practice has a clear flow, lots of ball contact, and a balance between technical work and game-like play. Keep instructions short and let players play.

The session below is a starting point, not a script. Adjust the durations and activities to your group, your space, and the number of players who show up. The structure — technical work into a game-related activity into a small-sided game — is what matters most.

Session overview

The basic parameters for this sample session.

Total duration

~85 minutes

Player range

8–14 players

Area

~30×20 yards

Equipment

Balls, cones, bibs, mini goals

Objective

Ball retention under pressure

Sample U10 session structure

Six blocks, roughly 85 minutes. Each block has a purpose and a coaching focus.

1

Arrival / activation

10 min

Let players arrive and start a fun, low-structure game. Keep it moving.

2

Ball mastery

15 min

Individual work — touches, turns, changes of direction. Every player has a ball.

3

Passing & receiving or 1v1

15 min

Short, sharp technical block. Introduce light pressure and a simple objective.

4

Game-related activity

20 min

Connect the technical focus to the game — 2v1, 3v2, or a directional possession pattern.

5

Small-sided game

20 min

3v3 or 4v4. Let them play. Coach sparingly — a few short cues are usually enough.

6

Short review / finish

5 min

Ask one question, highlight one positive, and finish on time.

What if your U10 session changes?

Every coach knows the feeling: you plan a session, arrive at the pitch, and reality is different.

Fewer players arrive than planned
More players arrive than expected
No goalkeeper available
Smaller pitch than expected
Training time is reduced
