Pass-and-Reappear — Play Inside, Move Outside the Cover Shadow

A positional passing exercise where the original passer disappears behind pressure after the first pass, then moves laterally to reappear as the next safe or progressive option.

Teach the passer to relocate after playing inside so the player becomes available again outside the defender's cover shadow.

Organization

Set a 16x16m diamond with one central defender or pressing mannequin. A passes into B centrally, then immediately moves sideways around the defender's cover shadow. B connects with C, who can then find A in the newly opened lane.

Coaching Points

Move after the pass before the defender can reset | Reappear outside the cover shadow, not directly behind it | B protects the central connection | C scans for the original passer before receiving | Final pass should find A facing forward where possible

Progressions

  • Make the central defender active and allow a second defender to press C.

Regressions

  • Use passive pressure and mark the reappearance zone with a gate.
