Inside-Heel Redirect — Let It Run, Play Behind Pressure

A technical combination where the apparent receiver lets the pass travel across the body and redirects it with the inside of the heel into a supporting player's path behind the pressing line.

Develop a disguised inside-heel redirect that uses the ball's momentum to play behind pressure without an extra controlling touch.

Organization

Set three staggered stations in a 16x12m area with a cone or passive defender representing pressure. Player A passes toward B. B opens as if to receive normally, lets the ball travel slightly across the body and redirects it with the inside of the heel to C moving behind the pressure reference. Rotate after each action.

Coaching Points

Scan the support runner before the ball arrives | Let the ball keep enough speed for the redirect | Use a soft inside-heel contact rather than a kick | Sell a normal reception with body shape | C moves as the first pass travels

Progressions

  • Replace the pressure cone with a live defender who can follow the obvious receiver or protect the passing lane.

Regressions

  • Use a fixed support runner and slower passes so the receiver can rehearse the heel contact.
