Sliding Far-Post Finish — Attack Low Cross

A wide service practice where the far-side attacker times the run across the back defender and finishes a low ball with an extended or sliding contact. The emphasis is on safe body control, timing and directing the ball goalward.

Organization

Use a full-size goal and a wide crossing lane. One server drives a low cross through the six-yard area while a far-post runner starts outside the opposite post and attacks the back zone. Use mats/appropriate surface if needed for sliding technique and keep repetitions controlled.

Coaching Points

Arrive late enough to attack the space, not stand in it | Accelerate across the defender's blind side | Keep eyes on the ball through contact | Use the inside foot or extended leg to guide, not swing wildly | Recover safely after the sliding action

Progressions

  • Add a live recovering defender tracking the far-post runner.

Regressions

  • Finish on the move without sliding until timing and body control are secure.
