Three-Side Press Box — Lock Two Exits, Invite the Trap Side

A pressing practice where defenders do not try to block every option. Instead, they lock two sides and deliberately leave one route available, then jump aggressively when the ball enters the chosen trap.

Shape the press so two exit routes are removed and possession is deliberately guided toward a prepared trap side.

Organization

Use a 16x16m square with one possession player on each side and two or three defenders inside. Mark one side as the trap side. Defenders coordinate body shape to discourage the other exits and press hard when the ball reaches the invited side.

Coaching Points

Leave the trap side available on purpose | First defender curves the press to close one exit | Second defender removes the central return | Jump together when the ball enters the trap | Do not reveal the trap by standing too early on the target side

Progressions

  • Allow possession players to rotate sides after every pass.

Regressions

  • Fix the trap side for several repetitions and restrict passing direction.
