1v1 Rear-Pressure Escape Duel

An attacker receives a served ball with a defender applying pressure from behind. The attacker must scan before receiving, protect the first touch, recognise the rear pressure, then turn, roll the defender, or escape sideways and accelerate through one of two forward gates. If the defender wins the ball, they immediately counter through a rear gate. Run parallel instances when squad size allows.

Receive the ball with a defender applying pressure from behind, protect possession, recognise the defender's position, turn or escape to either side and accelerate into free space.

Organization

Coach/feeder (outside playing area, not part of player count) passes into the attacker. The attacker starts centrally with back or side-on to the defender. The defender starts approximately 1–2m behind the attacker. The attacker must scan before the ball arrives, protect the first touch, feel and recognise the rear pressure, then decide: turn, roll the defender, or protect and escape sideways — and accelerate through either forward gate. The defender attempts to stay tight but balanced, prevent the turn, and win possession. If the defender wins the ball, they can immediately counter through the rear gate. Two forward escape gates (left and right) plus one counter gate behind the attacker. Continuous short repetitions. Run parallel instances when squad size allows.

Coaching Points
