4-3-3 Positional Rondo — Build Through the Pivot

A positional rondo based on 4-3-3 relationships, with the pivot acting as the key connector between the first and second lines. Players work on creating angles around pressure and progressing through the central player when possible.

Organization

Mark a positional grid with two centre-back positions, two wide positions, one pivot and advanced support players. Use 6–7 possession players against 2–3 defenders. The pivot operates centrally and may move between reference zones.

Coaching Points

Centre backs split to create the first line; Pivot moves off the cover shadow; Play through the pivot when the lane is clean; Use bounce passes to escape pressure; Opposite players maintain width and depth

Progressions

  • Add a target line beyond the midfield unit and require progression through the pivot.

Regressions

  • Use only two defenders and allow the pivot unlimited touches.
