Rondos are the foundation of possession-based football training. In a rondo, a small group of attackers keeps the ball away from one or two defenders in a tight space, creating the pressure, decision-making and support angles that players need in real matches. FUTNIVO's rondo drills progress from classic 4v2 setups to directional variations that add end zones, split passes and positional constraints. Whether you coach grassroots juniors or competitive youth teams, these exercises develop composure on the ball, quick scanning and the ability to play through pressure — the same habits that translate directly to match-day possession. Use them as warm-up rondos at the start of a session, as a technical core block, or as a competitive small-sided game with a point system for consecutive passes.
Start with a simple 4v2 rondo in a 12×8m area to establish rhythm and passing patterns. Once players are comfortable, progress to directional rondos with end zones or split-pass targets to add penetration. Adjust the playing area larger to make retention easier or smaller to increase pressure. Rotate defenders every 30–45 seconds to maintain intensity. For younger players, begin with a 5v2 overload and focus on body shape when receiving; for older or more advanced groups, reduce to 4v2 or even 4v3 and demand one-touch play.
