Back-to-Goal Flick Finish — 9 Redirects, Runner Shoots Without Settling

A fast finishing combination where the 9 acts as a redirection point instead of setting the ball conventionally. The supporting runner reads the touch and finishes without allowing the defence to reset.

Use a back-to-goal forward's first-time flick or redirect to create an immediate shooting chance for a runner.

Organization

Position the 9 16–18m from a full-size goal with goalkeeper and a runner 5–7m deeper. A server plays firmly into the 9, who redirects first time with inside, outside or heel into the runner's path. The runner finishes with minimal touches.

Coaching Points

9 checks the runner before contact | Redirect with soft pace into the shooting path | Runner times movement after the service starts | Finish early before the goalkeeper sets fully | Use different redirect surfaces without forcing tricks

Progressions

  • Add a defender tight to the 9 and a recovering defender chasing the runner.

Regressions

  • Use passive pressure and allow the 9 two touches.
