Organization

Create a 24x20m wide defensive zone leading toward goal or mini-goals. An attacker receives wide against a fullback, with a second attacker available inside. The centre-back starts centrally and must adjust as the fullback steps out.

Coaching Points

Centre-back moves as the fullback moves | Protect inside space before chasing outside | Maintain cover distance, not the same line | Communicate whether to pass on the inside runner | Recover toward goal if the winger breaks through

Progressions

  • Add an overlapping runner to create a 3v2 decision on the flank.

Regressions

  • Use a passive inside attacker and coach the cover angle without a live overlap.
