Weak-Foot Pressing Trap — Show Inside, Jump on First Touch

A directional pressing game where the defending team deliberately leaves one passing lane available to a player receiving on the weaker side. Once the pass is played, nearby defenders close the receiver and inside options together.

Develop a pressing trap that invites a receiver onto their weaker foot before jumping aggressively on the first touch.

Organization

Use a 34x26m area with 5v5 or 6v6 and two directional target gates. Nominate one outside receiver on each team as the trap target. Defenders shape to invite the pass, then press on the receiver's first touch while covering the inside outlet.

Coaching Points

The trap starts with body shape before the pass is played | Press on the receiver's first touch, not before | Second defender blocks the inside escape | Third defender protects the next forward pass | If the trap is broken, recover compactly instead of chasing individually

Progressions

  • Remove the designated target and let defenders identify any poor body shape as a pressing cue.

Regressions

  • Fix the trap side and slow the restart so defenders can organise.
