Organization

Use a 32x25m central channel with two centre-backs, one defensive midfielder, striker, attacking midfielder and server. The striker can drop into a marked pocket or threaten in behind. Defenders communicate and score by preventing forward progression for 8 seconds or regaining.

Coaching Points

Do not follow automatically; check depth and cover first | Communicate early with the midfielder | If you step, another defender protects the space behind | Stay connected to the line if the striker cannot turn | Recognise when to pass the striker on rather than chase

Progressions

  • Add a second forward making a run behind when the 9 drops.

Regressions

  • Fix the striker's movement and rehearse follow/hold decisions with reduced speed.
