Indirect Free Kick — Short Routine and Strike

A repeatable indirect free-kick routine where the first player disguises the restart and a teammate sets the ball for a strike. The practice develops timing, weight of pass, communication and quick organisation around dead-ball situations.

Execute a simple indirect free-kick combination that creates a clean second-touch shooting opportunity.

Organization

Mark several indirect free-kick positions around the edge of the box. Use a goalkeeper, a passive or semi-active wall and three attackers: starter, setter and shooter. Add two rebound players once the pattern is established.

Coaching Points

Communicate the trigger clearly | First touch should move the wall or create a new angle | Set the ball at the correct pace and distance | Shooter arrives balanced | Attack rebounds and second balls

Progressions

  • Allow the defending wall to break and press as soon as the first touch is taken.

Regressions

  • Use no wall and rehearse the timing pattern unopposed.
