One-Touch Around the Corner — Set Across Defender, Continue Forward

A tight combination practice with a defender screening the direct lane. The receiver uses one touch to play around the defender rather than returning the ball along the same line.

Play a one-touch set around the side of a defender so the next player can continue forward without receiving directly into pressure.

Organization

Use a 16x12m area with a server, target receiver, support player and one defender. The server finds the target, who sets one touch around either side of the defender to a support player positioned on a different line. The support player then plays forward into an end gate or target.

Coaching Points

Target checks defender position before the pass arrives | Set across the defender rather than back toward the server | Support player arrives outside the defender's reach | One-touch angle must suit the next forward pass | Move again after the set to remain connected

Progressions

  • Make the defender fully active and allow interception of the set.

Regressions

  • Use passive pressure and widen the support angle.
