Lobbed Pullback Volley — Lift from Byline, Finish at Edge

A finishing pattern where the wide player reaches the byline and lifts a short pullback into the edge zone for a trailing attacker to volley before the defence can step out.

Organization

Use a wide channel and full-size goal. The wide player reaches the byline and clips a controlled pullback 8–12m toward the top of the box. The finishing player delays outside the area, then attacks the dropping ball for a volley or controlled half-volley.

Coaching Points

Crosser lifts the ball away from the goalkeeper | Finisher delays until the byline touch | Arrive underneath the dropping ball | Keep upper body controlled through the strike | Use placement when the ball arrives above knee height

Progressions

  • Add a defender stepping out from the box to pressure the edge finisher.

Regressions

  • Use hand-served lofted pullbacks from a fixed byline position.
