Split-Line One-Two — Draw Defender and Bounce Beyond

The attacker passes to a teammate, draws the defender toward the ball, then receives the return pass on the other side of the defender to break the line. The drill trains the wall pass that splits a defender and the timing of the run to receive beyond the pressure.

Develop the one-two (wall pass) that splits a defender — pass to a teammate, draw the defender, receive the return pass beyond the defender's position.

Organization

Set up a 15×10m area with a defender in the middle. Attacker A dribbles toward the defender, passes to Attacker B (who is to the side), and continues running past the defender. Attacker B returns the pass into the space beyond the defender. Attacker A receives and dribbles to the end. Rotate positions. 8 reps, rotate every 4.

Coaching Points

1. Pass firmly to B — the return has to be quick. 2. After passing, sprint past the defender — don't slow down. 3. The return pass goes into space, not to feet — lead the runner. 4. B plays the return with one touch if possible — speed is key. 5. A receives on the run — don't stop to control. 6. Time the run — don't go too early (offside) or too late (defender recovers).

Progressions

  • Add a second defender behind the first — the return pass must beat both.
  • Limit B to one touch — no time to settle the ball.

Regressions

  • Defender is passive — stands still, doesn't move to intercept.
  • Use a static cone instead of a defender — just practice the pass and run.
