Organization

Create 10x8m channels with a receiver in the middle, a server behind and a target beyond. A defender starts two metres to the side and closes on the receiver's first touch. The receiver protects the line of the ball and releases a toe-poke pass into the target before contact.

Coaching Points

Scan the defender before receiving | Keep the ball within one short step | Use the toe-poke only when there is no time for a full swing | Pass through the safe side of the target | Move away from contact immediately after release

Progressions

  • Allow the defender to start from either side so the receiver must choose the safe release lane.

Regressions

  • Increase the defender's starting distance and allow the receiver two preparation touches.
