2-3-2 Build-Up — Fullbacks Narrow, Wingers Hold Touchlines

A positional practice where fullbacks move into the inside channels underneath the midfield line while the wingers maintain maximum width. The shape creates multiple central support options without sacrificing the outside lanes.

Organization

Use a 45x40m area split into five vertical lanes. Seven possession players form two centre-backs, two narrow fullbacks, one central midfielder and two high wingers against five pressers. Progress through end gates or into target players.

Coaching Points

Wingers own the touchline lanes | Fullbacks occupy inside channels, not the same lane as wingers | Central midfielder connects both sides | Centre-backs carry if no presser steps | Keep vertical distances short enough to combine

Progressions

  • Allow a defender to jump from the second line onto either narrow fullback.

Regressions

  • Reduce the press to four players and keep the central midfielder unopposed.
