Possession drills train a team's ability to keep the ball, move it with purpose and play through organised pressure. FUTNIVO's collection ranges from structured overload exercises to positional games with channels, end zones and bounce players that mirror the patterns of a real match. These drills develop the habits that underpin possession-based football — supporting angles, spacing, body shape when receiving and the patience to circulate until a forward option appears. Rondo drills are included here where they genuinely train possession principles, but the focus is on broader ball-retention exercises that progress beyond a single grid. Use them to build a team that is comfortable in possession, able to switch play and confident playing out from the back under pressure.
Start with an overload possession exercise (e.g. 5v3 or 6v4) to give players time on the ball and build confidence, then remove a player to increase pressure. Use channel or zone constraints to encourage positional play and force players to occupy different areas. For younger groups, keep the area larger and the overload bigger; for older or more advanced teams, reduce the space and the overload to demand quicker decisions. Set a pass-count target to add competition without changing the exercise structure.
