4v4 Number-Call Game — New Goal Becomes Live

Four mini-goals sit on the four sides of the pitch and the coach calls a number to activate a new target at random, forcing both teams to reorient immediately. The game trains auditory reaction, spatial awareness, and the ability to switch play toward a new goal under pressure.

Develop 4v4 scanning and adaptability by changing the active goal on the coach's call — players must listen, scan, and redirect their attack to the new target.

Organization

Set up a 25×20m area with a mini goal on each of the 4 sides (8 cones). 4v4. Coach calls a number (1-4) to activate a goal. Teams score by dribbling through the active goal. Coach changes the active goal every 20-30 seconds or after a score. If the ball goes out, restart with a pass. 3-minute games, rotate.

Coaching Points

1. Listen for the number — know which goal is active. 2. Scan to find the active goal — don't attack the wrong one. 3. When the goal changes, quickly redirect the attack. 4. Use the 4 players to create options toward the new goal. 5. Defenders: block the path to the active goal, force play away. 6. Quick reactions — the first team to find the new goal scores.

Progressions

  • Coach changes the goal every 10-15 seconds — faster adaptation.
  • Add a 5th goal in the centre — more options, more scanning.

Regressions

  • Use 2 goals only — simpler decision.
  • Coach calls the goal at the start and doesn't change it — no in-play adaptation.
