Organization

Play 5v5 on a 32x24m pitch with two target gates on each end line. Teams keep possession and attack the currently active end. At random moments the coach calls 'switch', instantly reversing the direction without stopping play.

Coaching Points

Scan both ends even when one is inactive | First touch after the call should face the new direction | Players behind the ball become forward options | Reorganise width quickly | Do not force a forward pass if the picture is closed

Progressions

  • Remove the verbal cue and use a visual signal that players must recognise while playing.

Regressions

  • Reverse direction only after a completed pass and give players two seconds to reorganise.
