5v5 Press-Release Clock — Leave Regain Zone in Four Seconds

A possession game that links retention with a short transition constraint. When a team wins the ball, a temporary pressure zone is created around the regain point and the team has four seconds to escape it while keeping control.

Organization

Play 5v5 in a 30x24m area. On every turnover, the coach identifies the nearest marked quadrant as the regain zone. The new possession team must move the ball or dribble out of that quadrant within four seconds before normal possession continues.

Coaching Points

First action secures the regain | Support appears outside the pressure zone | Avoid forcing a forward pass if the exit is sideways | Ball carrier scans before the tackle is won | Once clear, expand quickly to use the full area

Progressions

  • Reduce the escape clock to three seconds.

Regressions

  • Increase the clock to six seconds and enlarge the area.
