Two teams of six maintain possession while progressing the ball through three connected horizontal zones. A follow-the-pass mechanic creates temporary overloads when a player supports the pass into the adjacent zone. The ball must travel through the middle zone — direct end-to-end passes are prohibited. Turnover reverses the direction of progression immediately.

Divide the playing area into THREE connected horizontal zones of equal size (approximately 12×24m each within a 36×24m area). Both teams have players positioned in every zone. Preferred setup: Zone 1 = 2 blue vs 2 red, Zone 2 = 2 blue vs 2 red, Zone 3 = 2 blue vs 2 red. The team in possession must progress the ball from Zone 1 through Zone 2 to Zone 3 (or in the opposite direction after a turnover). The ball must travel THROUGH the middle zone — direct passes from one outer zone to the opposite outer zone are not allowed. When the ball is successfully played into the adjacent zone, ONE player from the passing zone may follow the pass to create a temporary overload (e.g. 2v2 becomes 3v2). After the ball progresses further, players must rotate and rebalance so the drill does not permanently collapse into one zone. Only ONE supporting player may cross with each progression. Award 1 point when a team successfully progresses from an outer zone through the middle zone to the opposite outer zone while keeping possession. After reaching the opposite outer zone, the team can immediately attempt to progress back in the opposite direction. When possession changes, direction immediately reverses, the new possession team tries to progress toward the opposite outer zone, players recover their zonal balance, and play continues without reset. For odd player counts, use ONE central neutral in Zone 2 who always supports the team in possession, remains primarily in Zone 2, and does not become part of either core team.
Scan before receiving. Create passing angles before the ball arrives. Receive with an open body shape. Recognise when to retain and when to progress. Move the opponent before playing forward. Support the pass immediately into the next zone. Use the temporary overload quickly. Do not overcrowd the ball zone. Rebalance after progression. Players away from the ball prepare the next connection. React immediately when possession changes. Avoid forcing direct progression when the passing lane is closed.
