Organization

Use a 36x28m build-up area with three centre-backs, two wing-backs, one pivot target and two pressers. Start with the central centre-back. The build-up side scores by progressing through a midfield gate or finding a wing-back beyond the first line.

Coaching Points

Use the central overload before forcing a wide pass | Outside centre-backs carry when nobody presses them | Wing-backs stay high enough to stretch the first line | Attract a presser before releasing the free player | Pivot offers a central option to stop the press locking wide

Progressions

  • Add a third presser and allow the pivot to drop into the first line.

Regressions

  • Use passive pressers and begin with a fixed pass to one outside centre-back.
