Central Vacate Rotation — 9 and 10 Clear the Lane for a Late Winger

A final-third rotation built around clearing, rather than occupying, the central zone. The 9 and 10 move in opposite directions and a winger delays the run before attacking the newly created central space.

Open the central finishing lane by moving the 9 and 10 away before a winger arrives late from the blind side.

Organization

Use a 40x36m attacking area with a full-size goal and goalkeeper. A 9, 10, two wingers and two supporting midfielders attack a back four. The 9 drifts toward one channel, the 10 moves away from the central lane and the far winger arrives late through the middle.

Coaching Points

Central players move to create space for someone else | Winger delays until the lane is genuinely open | Passer watches the centre-backs' movement | Far-side winger arrives at speed | Keep one support player outside the box for the recycle

Progressions

  • Allow the fullback to track the winger's late run from the weak side.

Regressions

  • Use three defenders and rehearse the clearing movements without live tracking.
