A build-up exercise where the pivot is deliberately screened and the centre-back must step forward with the ball to fix a midfielder before releasing the next pass.

Organization

Set a build-up area with two centre-backs, a pivot and two advanced targets against a pressing line. One centre-back receives without direct pressure while the pivot is marked. The centre-back carries into midfield until a defender steps, then releases to the newly free player.

Coaching Points

Carry only when the first line does not engage | Drive toward a defender, not empty space | Pivot moves to create a passing shadow decision | Release as the defender steps | Recover balance behind the ball after the pass

Progressions

  • Allow the pressers to change which centre-back is left free and add a counter goal after regain.

Regressions

  • Predetermine the pressing player who steps to the carrying centre-back.
