Centre-Forward Screen — Pin Centre-Back, Release Inside Winger

A central-to-wide combination where the striker pins a centre-back rather than receiving the ball. The winger leaves the touchline and attacks the channel opened beside the occupied defender.

Organization

Set a midfield passer, striker on the last line, winger starting wide and two defenders. The striker positions between ball and centre-back to occupy the defender. As the passer looks forward, the winger makes an inside run into the gap for the through pass.

Coaching Points

Striker pins without fouling | Winger starts wide enough to create separation | Inside run begins when the centre-back engages the striker | Pass travels into the runner's path | Striker reacts for second ball or rebound

Progressions

  • Add a fullback who can track the winger and force a decision between inside run and staying wide.

Regressions

  • Use passive defenders and a fixed inside-running cue.
