Channel Run Drag — Striker Pulls CB, 10 Attacks the Vacated Gap

A central attacking exercise where the striker's run is designed primarily to move a defender rather than receive. The 10 reads the centre-back's reaction and attacks the gap that opens inside.

Organization

Use a 38x34m final-third area with a full-size goal and goalkeeper. A striker, 10, two wide players and supporting midfielder attack a back four. The striker starts centrally and makes a diagonal channel run as the 10 positions underneath.

Coaching Points

Striker runs hard enough to demand the centre-back's attention | 10 waits until the defender begins to move | Passer can still use the striker if the CB holds position | Wide players keep the remaining defenders occupied | 10 attacks the gap with the first touch forward

Progressions

  • Allow a defensive midfielder to recover and screen the 10.

Regressions

  • Use three defenders and predetermine the striker's channel.
