Counterpress to Second Regain — Lose, Win, Lose, Win

A continuous transition game designed to create a second reaction after the first counterpress succeeds. The sequence only scores when a team reacts correctly through multiple possession changes.

Train repeated transition reactions by continuing the exercise through two consecutive changes of possession rather than stopping after the first regain.

Organization

Play 4v4 or 5v5 in a 26x22m area with four mini-goals outside the corners. After any turnover, play continues. A bonus point is awarded only if a team loses the ball, regains within five seconds, loses it again and reacts to win or force the ball out a second time.

Coaching Points

Do not relax after the first regain | Closest player presses immediately after every loss | Teammates close nearby escape lanes | Secure the first regain before the next risky pass | Communication must survive repeated transitions

Progressions

  • Reduce the counterpress window from five to three seconds.

Regressions

  • Award the bonus after only one successful regain before building toward the full sequence.
