Cross-Body Near-Corner Finish — Open Far, Strike Near

An angled finishing drill where the attacker approaches as if opening the body to guide the ball across goal but instead closes the ankle and finishes into the near corner.

Use body disguise to suggest a far-corner finish before striking quickly toward the goalkeeper's near side.

Organization

Set attackers in an inside-left and inside-right channel 15–18m from goal. A server plays into the attacker's path. The attacker shapes hips and plant foot toward the far corner, then strikes quickly toward the near side.

Coaching Points

Scan goalkeeper position before the final touch | Sell the far-corner picture with body shape | Keep the ball close enough to change the strike | Contact should be compact and quick | Use both sides of the goal

Progressions

  • Add a recovering defender who pressures from the attacker's outside shoulder.

Regressions

  • Use a stationary ball and no defender to rehearse the disguise.
