Far-Side Trio After Switch — Winger, Fullback and 8 Combine

An attacking pattern where a switch of play releases a far-side winger, fullback and number 8 into a temporary three-player advantage before the defence can shift.

Organization

Build the action on one side, then switch diagonally to the opposite winger. On the far side, the winger receives wide, the fullback supports outside or underneath and the 8 arrives inside. Play the resulting 3v2 toward goal or mini-goals.

Coaching Points

Switch before the far side becomes crowded | Winger receives facing forward | Three attackers occupy different lanes | Attack before the block can travel | Choose overlap, inside pass or direct dribble based on defender position

Progressions

  • Allow a recovering midfielder to arrive after the switch and turn the situation into 3v3.

Regressions

  • Start the far-side phase as a clear 3v1 before adding the second defender.
