Organization

Attack from a wide channel. The striker makes an aggressive near-post run as the winger reaches the byline. The number 8 delays outside the box, then arrives into the penalty-spot lane for the cutback as the defender follows the striker.

Coaching Points

Near-post run must be fast enough to move the defender | 8 stays out until the byline touch | Cutback travels behind the first defensive line | Arrive facing goal | Opposite attacker protects the far-post space

Progressions

  • Add a holding midfielder who can track the number 8 from behind.

Regressions

  • Remove the tracking midfielder and use a fixed cutback service.
