Opposite 10 Rotation — One Drops, One Attacks Last Line

A central attacking pattern using two number 10s at different heights. The near-side 10 checks toward possession while the far-side 10 runs beyond as the defence reacts to the drop.

Coordinate two advanced midfielders so one drops toward the ball while the opposite 10 attacks beyond the defensive line.

Organization

Use a central build-up lane with a striker, two 10s and a midfield passer against three or four defenders. As the ball travels into the near half-space, the near 10 drops to connect and the opposite 10 immediately attacks the gap beyond the back line.

Coaching Points

The two 10s should move in opposite directions | Dropping player must be a genuine receiving option | Far-side run starts as the defender steps forward | Passer scans beyond before using the short option | Striker pins the central defender

Progressions

  • Make the back line fully live and allow the dropping 10 to turn if defenders do not follow.

Regressions

  • Use passive defenders and rehearse the opposite movements from a fixed starting pass.
