Partner Ball Exchange — Pass, Swap and Accelerate

Two players exchange passes while swapping positions after each pass, accelerating into the partner's previous spot. The drill builds the fundamental habit of moving immediately after playing and passing on the run rather than from a standstill.

Develop passing and movement by exchanging the ball with a partner, swapping positions after the pass, and accelerating into the new space — building the pass-and-move habit.

Organization

Set up 2 cones 8m apart in a 12×8m area. Player A passes to Player B, then sprints past B to the opposite cone. B receives, dribbles to A's old cone, and passes back. A receives, sprints past B again. Continue, alternating who passes and who sprints. 60s per pair, rest 30s, 4 sets.

Coaching Points

1. Pass firmly to feet — inside of the foot, on the ground. 2. After passing, sprint immediately — don't jog. 3. Run past the receiver — take their position, don't stop beside them. 4. The receiver controls, dribbles to the empty cone, then passes back. 5. Keep the rhythm — pass, sprint, receive, dribble, pass. 6. Head up before passing — see where your partner is.

Progressions

  • Limit to one-touch passing — no dribbling, just pass and sprint.
  • Add a passive defender who chases the sprinter — pressure on the run.

Regressions

  • Use two touches — receive, then pass.
  • Walk the sprint — focus on the pattern, not the speed.
