A transition-focused set-piece game where an attacking team wins a free kick and must decide whether to restart immediately. The objective is to use a quick pass to create a forward attack before the opposition can recover shape.

Organization

Play 5v5 to 7v7 in a 45x35m area with target goals or mini goals. The coach calls a foul at selected moments. The fouled team can restart instantly from the ball location and has eight seconds to create a finish.

Coaching Points

Recognise when the opponent is disorganised | Nearest player gets over the ball quickly | First pass should remove pressure or break a line | Supporting runs start before the restart | Slow down only if the quick option is not on

Progressions

  • Allow the defending team to counter immediately if it regains the ball during the quick restart.

Regressions

  • Use an unopposed target run after the first quick pass.
