Receive Behind Pressure Line — Step Out, First Touch Forward

The receiver starts hidden behind a line of pressure, moves into a passing window and takes the first touch forward into the next zone. The exercise develops timing of movement, scanning and the ability to turn a line-breaking pass into immediate progression.

Develop receiving just beyond a pressure line and using the first touch to step forward before pressure can recover.

Organization

Mark three horizontal zones across a 24x16m area. Two pressure references occupy the middle line. A passer in Zone 1 finds a receiver checking into the space behind the pressure line; the receiver must take the first touch into Zone 3 and connect with a target player. Rotate roles regularly.

Coaching Points

Move late so the passing lane opens at the right moment | Check both shoulders before stepping into the pocket | Receive on the back foot where possible | First touch must take ground forward | Support the receiver once the line is broken

Progressions

  • Make one pressure player live and allow them to recover into the receiver's zone.

Regressions

  • Use passive pressure and widen the passing lane.
