Regain and Finish in Five Seconds

A high-tempo transition game where regaining possession immediately starts a five-second scoring window. The rule rewards forward running, fast support and early finishing rather than slow circulation after a turnover.

Win the ball and create a shot within five seconds before the opposition can recover defensive shape.

Organization

Play 4v4 to 6v6 in a 35x28m area with two goals or four mini goals. When a team wins the ball, the coach counts five seconds aloud. A goal inside the window is worth two points; normal goals after the window are worth one.

Coaching Points

First touch after regain should face the attack | Support runs start immediately | Use the nearest forward option before switching | Finish when the window opens rather than overplaying | Counterpress if the first attack breaks down

Progressions

  • Make goals count only inside the five-second window.

Regressions

  • Use an eight-second window and widen the playing area.
