Organization

Use a full goal at one end and two mini-goals near halfway. An attacking pair creates a shot against the goalkeeper. On a clean save, three designated counterattackers break against two recovering defenders and the goalkeeper releases quickly by throw or pass.

Coaching Points

Goalkeeper scans before securing the ball | Counter runners open immediately | First distribution should eliminate pressure | Use the 3v2 before recovery arrives | If the save is not clean, secure first rather than forcing the counter

Progressions

  • Add a third recovering defender who joins after the goalkeeper releases the ball.

Regressions

  • Start the counterattackers higher and give the goalkeeper a free distribution.
