Third-Man Shot + 2v1 Cross

A two-action finishing practice that begins with a third-man combination for a central shot and immediately continues into a wide 2v1 ending with a cross or cutback. Players must reset quickly between different attacking pictures.

Organization

Use one full-size goal. Action one: three players combine through an up-back-through sequence for a central finish. Immediately a second ball is released wide where two attackers play against one defender and deliver to two runners.

Coaching Points

Time the third-man run beyond the receiver; Finish the first action quickly; Transition immediately to the wide attack; Fix the wide defender before releasing the overlap; Coordinate near and far box runs

Progressions

  • Add a recovering defender into the box for the second action.

Regressions

  • Run both actions unopposed before adding defenders.
