Two-Ball Offset Diamond — Scan One Ball, Play the Other

A two-ball passing practice in an offset diamond. Players must constantly scan because the second ball can arrive from a different line just after they release the first.

Organization

Build an offset diamond approximately 18x14m with two players at each point. Start two balls at opposite corners. Each receiver plays to the next point, then moves to a different cone than the ball. Balls should cross different visual fields but never be intentionally played at each other.

Coaching Points

Scan before the ball arrives | Know where both balls are | Communicate if two actions may conflict | Pass with enough weight to maintain rhythm | Move away from the line of the ball after releasing

Progressions

  • Make one ball travel one touch while the second remains two touch.

Regressions

  • Use one ball first, then introduce the second after the pattern is stable.
