3-Team Perimeter Swap — Team Losing Possession Enters the Middle

A three-team transition possession game where two teams cooperate around the outside and one team defends inside. When possession is lost to the defending team, the team responsible for the turnover immediately becomes the new central defending group.

Create immediate role transition by sending the team that loses possession into the middle while the previous defenders escape to the perimeter.

Organization

Use a 24x24m square with three teams of four or five. Two teams support possession using inside and perimeter positions against one defending team. On a clean regain, the team that gave away the ball becomes the defenders and the regaining team expands to support possession.

Coaching Points

React instantly when possession changes | New defending team closes the ball before expanding players escape | Regaining team moves away from pressure quickly | Outside support creates width immediately | Communicate the role swap clearly

Progressions

  • Give the regaining team only three seconds to connect an outside teammate.

Regressions

  • Pause briefly after turnovers so teams can organise the role change.
